SaferCar – An iPhone App To Protect Your Family
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Apple recently paired up to develop and release a new app that gives real time safety information and updates.
The free iOS application is called SaferCar. It is available for iPhones and iPod Touches, though not yet for tablets.
What Does SaferCar Do?
The NHTSA also operates the website SaferCar.gov
. This website provides information about the app.
According to NHTSA Administrator David Strickland, “the new SaferCar app literally puts the latest in vehicle safety information directly in the hands of consumers so they can make appropriate purchasing and other decisions for themselves and their families.”
SaferCar lets consumers find applicable information swiftly and simply. Here is what the app allows consumers to do:
- Subscribe to recall notices
- Search for recall information
- File safety complaints about vehicles
- Locate help for car seat installation
- Search and compare five-star safety ratings
How Does it Help?
Car manufacturers recalled items 650 times in 2012, resulting in 17.8 million recalled products. Without the app, it can be difficult for consumers to stay up-to-date on all of those recalls. It is crucial for consumers to be fully informed about the vehicles they wish to purchase.
Consumers need reliable information, as well. Otherwise, they might choose their next vehicle poorly. Every consumer wants to know: Is the car he or she is considering safe or not?
Be sure to thoroughly research any vehicle you want to buy. Even brands with a long history of reliability, such as Volvo, have had vehicles recalled.
